Ina Buisman has devoted herself entirely to art since 1984. The deep awareness that everything in life is limited and can only ‘be’ as long as there is energy for it, forms the basis of her work. Again and again she questions existing norms and values. This has led to a recognizable signature in her work.
Experiences she has gained during her travels through Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Indonesia are of great influence on her current work and use of color. During this immense voyage of discovery, in which the individual is barely recognizable and all impressions are experienced as sparkling and new, she searches for the pure, primal and qualitative elements of life.
The spiritual character of the remains from ancient cultures of the Indians in the United States and the Aborigines in Australia brought her closer to the essentials that surround us. In her more recent work, therefore, much can be found of the use of color and drawing motifs from these cultures and mythology. The depth effect of the colors, created by the different layers of painted Japanese paper with sand, is symbolic of the successive phases of a process of thinking, experiencing and developing towards freedom in cultures as in her own life.
Her work has a strong organic character. It balances on the dividing line between growth and decay, between the amorphous and the solid.
