Madeleine is a discovery and .makes etchings and works in mixed media
” Through the form I refer to the void… “
Because she does not turn the etching plate off completely and uses soft aquatint, her work has an almost painterly character. That character is further enhanced by the fact that the etchings are finished off with paint, chalk and ollage of scraps of paper.
But it is mainly the mysterious softness of the lines and tints that determines the atmosphere of her aquatints.
Leddy works in an abstract way, but in her work forms regularly appear that have more the character of signs, of signals recalling concrete things. Triangles, spirals and regular shading, reminiscent of primitive peoples’ paintings, are used in the composition.
A recurring theme are also the large surfaces that are mirrored to each other, which sometimes remind one of Moses’ tablets, sometimes of the wings of a bird spread out.
