Cecile De Bruijn an established contemporary visual artist was, born in 1950, primarily inspired by the 1960s. She has been drawing and painting since she was ten. She lived in Italy, and in Vence at the Cote D’ Azur in France, where also Matisse and Chagall were domiciled, was a model for a while, organised fashion shows, but always kept expressing herself creatively in acrylic paintings, collages, pastels and sikscreens.

Even when the vibrant paintings draw you into the worlds of abounding nature she always start a painting without any idea., as an experiment of technics and soon the painting takes it over.

Her poetric paintings are full of hidden meaning and dephts, every aspect of the surface, including the frames have been carefully crafted. The closer you look, the deeper you are drawn in, the more you can see beyond the initial imagery and colours.

The paintings are immediate and accessible, the first impression is of positivity and innocence but the more you look the more complex and nuanced the world becomes. The paintings offer the viewer a mystery, which is for them to unravel, the work hints at an underlying melancholy and the injustices of the world while wrapped in beauty and colour.

For Cecile, listening to music and the act of creation;set her free tp travel the world of her imagination. The viewer simply needs to bring an openness and readiness to look more deeply and to be transported. The natural world, the fields, woods, the lights ,birds and her dogs give her the inspiration and a connection with nature.
