‘Gestalten’ (Figures)

The roughly hewn surface textures of the figures and heads, formed with deep notches, cuts, slices, thrusts and hatching, bear testimony to the Klaus Prior’s unequivocal dialogue with hard natural materials, such as cedar, poplar, redwood or oak. Primary means of expression is the idiosyncratic line that Prior hews into the wood with his virtuoso handling of the chainsaw. Aggressive attacks from the outside, creating seismic shocks from the inside, appear to have left their mark on both bodies and faces.
Most of Klaus Prior`s works figures, simply called ‘Figura’ od ‘Sculpture’, do not have a narative context. They stand on their own and show kind of a distillation of the human being and form to its elementary questions and meanings.

Klaus Prior’s works, biography and literature is listed in SIKART (Lexicon of Swiss Artists)
