Since 1987, the artist has researched symbolic meaning in his work. In order to get a deeper insight he tries to visualise reality through an X-ray. This is an analysis of drawing and picture building. His paintings are about the relation of structure versus reality. This is also to be seen in his way of painting.
Before 1987, spontaneous gestures were dominant in his work, with colour and form next to each other. This led to a deepening of colour. This consisted of different layers of paint and various layers.
In 1988 the artist began to use water colours again (not used since 1976), where numbers played a symbolic role. In the same year he took up photography. After an experimental phase using photo collages, the results were transposed into oil and acrylic.
His latest work (1990/91) is using long horizontal formats incorporating rythym, colour and phrasing.
