Bill Bodewes was inspired in his work by cartoons and football chewing gum pictures.

The colour etchings are caricatures. They are primitive and powerful, exuberant and absurd, razor-sharp in their naivety.

The artist grew up with pop and pop art. He is recognised as the most important exponent of humanistic humour. His work gives a light-hearted view of life.

Bodewes’ work has its strength by its quality as a cartoon.

The paintings are filled with thick lines and rough surfaces: colourful, powerful, cheerful and directly appealing. “He knows how to make art out of tricks. From cliches, he comes to a surprising multiformity.”
